Welcome to the San Diego Pool League for all our players, whether you are new or a returning friendly face. This is a circle of friends that meets weekly for fun filled activity. And that activity is pool.
I have come to realize over the years of playing pool - don’t ask how many, be nice to your elders - that the game of pool is not about you and your opponent. It is between you and the cue ball. The opponent is just a prop. If your opponent makes a move that makes it hard to shoot, just remember the words of one of the best WCC players, Frank Bustamante of Los Angeles, who once said, “there always is a shot, just find the angle. Theretofore, it is you vs. the cue ball and finding that angle that is what makes it fun.
Another fun activity within the league play is stepping up to assist the Board of Officers in carrying out their duties that you have chosen them to do. These men and women are players, just like you; they are also your friends. There are banquets to plan, tournament to host, trophies orders to choose and purchase. These duties actually are fun. Quite demanding at times, but still fun. A grateful smile is worth every moment.
Having said that, there is a time when membership on the Board of Officers comes to a close, at least for me. Effective immediately I am resigning as your league president. Jorge Calvo, our vice president, will automatically step into the role. He is qualified and ready to take over.
After being in the hospital for the past week, my family and I have discovered I have serious medical needs. I need this time to be with my family and to take charge of my health issues. I know that you all are thinking good thoughts and prayers for me. For that Bob, the children, and grandchildren and I are very thankful.
I will continue to play on my team as much as I can. I look forward to seeing all your happy smiling faces in the future matches.
I know that many speak of the good old days, when was that? Doesn’t the pool league have its good old days ahead? I sincerely believe so and I know that you do too.
Keep that in your mind and play well, my friends.

Since 1978, the San Diego Pool League has established itself as a fun, competitive sporting organization dedicated to fostering sportsmanship and goodwill. SDPL has also been a place where friendships have been formed, thrived and sometimes replaced our natural family; a place some would call home.
And through the years, we have lost a few members of our family. We ask that we all take a moment to remember their friendships; recognize their contributions to our league; and most of all, HONOR them.
